HMP Spring Hill's education department are looking for an experienced Plumbing trainer / instructor / teacher to deliver Plumbing to a diverse group of learners within the prison. As a Trainer/Lecturer within our Milton Keynes College Offender Learning team, you will help to develop a strong Plumbing programme that meets the needs of the learners, prison and Milton Keynes College.
This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated trainer / tutor / teacher to deliver high learner success, through effective teaching and delivery in Plumbing. This vacancy would suit a highly motivated Plumbing teacher, with a can do approach to education. The ideal candidate will be a passionate and creative lecturer, who can thrive upon working within a challenging yet rewarding environment, who can offer skills & knowledge to our learners and guide them throughout their courses.
This is an exciting time for prison education and this is a great opportunity to experience prison teaching as a variable hours tutor with potential to be covering part and full time hours. As a sessional worker you would also potentially have the opportunity to work at multiple sites in the region, and cover other courses if you also had qualifications or expertise in other areas - for example Tiling. You will be a team player with excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Experience embedding Maths, English, E&D and Employability is essential in order to successfully deliver the curriculum.
About HMP Spring Hill & Grendon:
For many of the staff employed to work at HMP Spring Hill, they also have an opportunity or are required to teach at HMP Grendon (less than two-minute walk between sites).
HMP Grendon is a unique Therapeutic Category B national prison housing approximately 220 long term, prolific (re)offending adult males.
HMP Spring Hill is an Open Category D (resettlement) prison, housing approximately 320 male prisoners who are at the end of their custodial sentence and working towards resettlement. Residents at Spring Hill are considered low risk and are well underway with rehabilitation and resettlement.
As a successful candidate, you will:
* Hold a relevant qualification (level 3 or above).
* Hold a recognised teaching qualification (DTLLS, PGCE, Cert Ed) or willing to work towards
* Hold relevant assessor/verifier awards.
* Have teaching/training or vocational experience in relevant subject area and relevant up-to-date knowledge.
* The requirement of this role is to work across the whole prison estate, on all wings where education is delivered.
