Are you an experienced Plumbing and Gas professional looking to move into a coaching and assessment role? Do you want to support the next generation of Plumbing apprentices while building a long-term career within education and apprenticeship delivery?
This is a fantastic opportunity to join Slough & Langley College in a permanent role supporting Plumbing apprentices through their apprenticeship journey. You'll play a key role in coaching, mentoring, assessing and guiding learners towards successful EPA Gateway readiness.
As a Technical Skills Coach / Trainer, you'll manage a caseload of Plumbing apprentices, delivering workplace coaching, assessment feedback, progress reviews, skills scans and learner support. You'll work closely with apprentices, employers, line managers, apprenticeship teams and EPAOs to ensure learners remain on track and receive a high-quality apprenticeship experience.
The ideal candidate will have strong Plumbing and Gas experience, alongside a Level 3 Plumbing and Heating qualification, CCN1 and CENWAT. You'll ideally already hold an Assessor qualification such as CAVA or A1, although candidates willing to work towards this may also be considered. Strong organisation, communication and IT skills are essential, as the role involves accurate learner tracking, e-portfolio use and apprenticeship compliance.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Plumbing Skills Coach, Trainer Assessor, Apprenticeship Coach or qualified Plumbing and Gas professional to support apprentices, build employer relationships and make a lasting impact within work-based learning.
The role:
Manage a caseload of Plumbing apprentices.
Deliver coaching, mentoring, assessment and constructive feedback.
Conduct initial assessments and skills scans.
Agree realistic learning pathways and completion timelines with apprentices and employers.
Hold 10-12 week progress reviews with apprentices and line managers.
Track learner progress against knowledge, skills and behaviours.
Monitor and audit off-the-job training hours.
Maintain accurate records using EBS and e-portfolio systems.
Use digital platforms including Microsoft Teams, Google Classroom and online learning environments.
Liaise with employers, central apprenticeship teams and EPAOs.
Support learners with differing abilities and additional learning needs.
Permanent full-time position, 37 hours per week.
The person:
Level 3 Plumbing and Heating qualification.
CCN1 and CENWAT required.
Level 2 English and Maths.
Assessor award such as CAVA or A1 desirable, or willingness to work towards.
Experience working with apprentices, employers or within apprenticeship delivery.
Experience working with awarding bodies, EPAOs and curriculum teams.
Strong organisational skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Confident IT skills, including Microsoft Office and e-portfolio systems.
Able to work independently and as part of a wider delivery team.
