CV Search facility?

FE Careers offer you a recruitment advertising service for your Further Education and Work Based Learning vacancies. We do not offer a CV search facility at this time, we regularly ask our Job Seeker Subscribers if they wish to have their CV available to be searched by advertisers through a searchable CV database. The majority of people who respond to our requests for information explain that they do not wish to have a CV search facility available to advertisers and prefer to contact advertisers direct about positions. Due to this we must respect the wishes of our job seekers, as we are sure you will understand.

FE Careers do however provide a jobs via email service. This is an ‘opt in’ service for job seekers to receive email notification of job vacancies that match their criteria (matching your advertised applicant criteria) – proactively reaching your audience as well as advertising the role on FE Careers. When a job seeker receive the jobs via email, they can click on the job and apply if they are interested.

How Does the FE Careers Job Search 'robot' work

FE Careers job advertising 'tips'

Please find below some tips and suggestions on how to increase the job search ranking and ‘search ability’ of your job ad’s on the FE Careers job advertising system.

Please write your jobs adverts focusing on candidates applying for roles, rather than trying to manipulate the FE Careers search function – it is relevant candidates that you want to attract after all! We are writing this document to assist you to gain the fine balance between a well written job advert and understanding how the FE Careers job search system works.

The most important thing to remember is select the correct criteria for every job vacancy (Job role, Geographical Region and competency). You can select multiple Competencies by hold CTRL and clicking on the relevant competencies with your mouse. If you have an advert for London and select West Midlands in the job location by mistake, your role will only be found by people searching in West Midlands!

The FE Careers job search ‘robot’ can only identify words separated by spaces and we recommend using whole words or complete terms (EG Internal Verifier instead of IV or Customer Service instead of CS)

How does the FE Careers job search criteria work
Job adverts on FE Careers are ranked by search terms and keyword density of the words in your job adverts – so job seekers are given the most relevant roles at the top of their search results.

In a quick job search on FE Careers, the relevancy and density of keywords in your job ad ensures where you are ranked on the job search results. A Hospitality NVQ Assessor in London will need to be saved under the following criteria to be found in the job search:

Job Role: NVQ Assessor
Competency: Hospitality & Catering
Location: London

Then the search ‘robot’ scans all of the job adverts on FE Careers that are saved under these job ad search criteria. When there is more than one (as we have several thousand jobs advertised at any one time – the chances of this are very high!) the search scans for relevant keywords that match the search criteria in the main text of the job advertisement to decide which job advertisements are the most relevant to the job search.

If the advert has no mention of NVQ Assessor, Hospitality, Catering or London in the main job ad text – then this will appear lower down the search than one that does.

What does the FE Careers search ‘robot’ scan for in the job description / main text of the job advert?
The FE Careers search ‘robot’ is purely a machine that scans for keywords in the main test of your advert – it is a computer and not a human. It is looking for similar words to your vacancy details criteria (Job Role, Competency and Geographical Region)

For the Job Search ‘robot’ to be able to identify the keywords, please leave spaces in-between the words in your job advertisement.  The FE Careers search ‘robot’ can only pick up on whole words separated by spaces.

So the FE Careers search ‘robot’ will be able to read the words NVQ Assessor / Internal Verifier (picking up on the keywords NVQ Assessor and Internal Verifier).

But it DOES NOT pick up on abbreviations or the words that do not have a space between them. For Example do not write NVQ Assessor/IV in your job ad as the ‘robot’ cannot distinguish between these keywords.

So in conclusion the FE Careers Job Search ‘robot’ scans for keywords used in the title and main advertisement text. The ‘robot’ scans in particular for the keyword density of specific job role, occupational competency and geographical region in the body of the advertisement.

Job Seeker Advanced Searching
Job Seekers can also complete advanced searches. This is in addition to the Quick Job search. On the home page this is an additional text box searching for any word in the text of the advertisement. job seekers can also search via salary parameters and date of the job ad. Just to confirm the Job Search ‘robot’ also completes the same search process as in the quick job search explained above, but for these additional search options.

FE Careers Search ‘Robot’ screens for Spam
The FE Careers system endeavours to eradicate Spam in adverts. So if you write a paragraph just chocked full of keywords and nothing else the FE Careers system will flag this up as spam and it will be deleted from the site. So it is best to write a normal advert, that is geared towards attracting normal job seekers to your role and take into account how the Search robot calculates which jobs are relevant to ensure the best ranking possible in the search results. Don’t forget, the purpose of the advert is to attract relevant candidates to a role, not just appeal to a search robot!
